Max Lamb and Salon 94 Design introduce the 50 Armchair—an evolution of his now iconic Economy Chair series. This new limited edition in Coca-Cola Red follows five years after our release of 60 Chairs, a performance in material exploration when in 2020, Lamb transformed five 4-inch slabs of polystyrene into 60 chairs in just three days—a sprint in precise cutting, gluing, and assembly.

Just as the original 60 Chair presented a study in economies of scale, reduction to essential elements and innovating on the most fundamental forms, the new 50 Armchair continues Lamb’s marathon performance expanding his meticulous cutting list to create a more generous seat and the addition of armrests. The 50 Armchair limited-edition RED is  exclusive to this initial release, and is the perfect foil to the unpigmented rubber spray that characterized the original 60 Chair series.

Handmade, and with each chair in slight variation, 50 Armchair requires a complex cutting and assembly process, with each armrest adding new planes and intersections to the geometric puzzle.  This new more generous armchair explores how strategic additions can transform both form and function.

This new poly shape continues Lamb’s 15-year investigation into the possibilities of polystyrene, an otherwise lightweight, packaging and construction material, as well as his constant study to avoid waste. Trademark Lamb, he continues to push boundaries through innovative techniques and surface treatments that elevate modest materials into sturdy sculptural furniture.
